| Community Building Initiatives
Community Building Initiatives (CBI) develops mutually beneficial, capacity building relationships with groups and organizations that enable Pillsbury United Communities to achieve its mission. Over time, these mutually beneficial relationships have evolved into what we now call affiliate relationships. As of July, 2003 Pillsbury United Communities has 15 affiliates. We enter into formal and strategic capacity building relationships with affiliate groups and organizations because we believe that: • | There is a growing need to do so as evidenced by the dramatic growth in emerging immigrant-led groups and organizations that feel their needs are not being met by more established public and non-profit organizations. | • | Affiliates can and do play significant roles in addressing unmet community needs. By supporting affiliates, we’re building the capacities of groups and organizations to more effectively serve our community. Further, by engaging in affiliate relationships, Pillsbury United Communities enhances its capacity to learn and more effectively serve the community. | • | Emerging community leadership needs to be supported and developed, particularly in underserved communities. We believe there is a growing need to support leaders that are both trusted and closely tied to their respective communities, but who may not have the "institutional know-how" in operating a non-profit within the context of an increasingly regulatory environment. | • | Pillsbury United Communities’ administrative and programmatic assets provide excellent real-life learning opportunities that can be leveraged to affect change. By centralizing certain administrative services, the broader community will realize greater organizational efficiencies, effectiveness, and public service. |
