Services

CBI directly offers
and/or facilitates two types of services as follows:

1) "Backroom"
Services
include accounting, finance, human resource, and in some
instances, information and technology services such as:

  • Monthly financial
    statements, monthly cash reconciliation and investments administration
  • Accounts payable
    and receivable
  • Payroll and benefits
    administration
  • Contract billing
  • Form 990, 1096
    and 1099 IRS filings
  • Staff support on
    independent audits
  • In instances when
    the affiliate is either housed in a Pillsbury facility or in a remote
    access arrangement, the affiliate may have access to Pillsbury’s software,
    Great Plains Dynamics accounting system, e-time reporting system, internet,
    e-mail, telephone/voice mail, fax, photocopying, etc.

2) Technical Assistance:

  • Preparing groups
    and organizations to become an affiliate of Pillsbury United Communities.
    (It costs CBI staff approximately $68/staff hour, and therefore it is
    important that prospective affiliates are prepared for meetings.
  • Leadership coaching
    focusing on lead staff skill development that typically involves external
    training opportunities and one-to-one sessions with CBI staff.
  • Serving as a liaison
    between the affiliate and Pillsbury United Communities’ backroom services
    in such areas as: (a) initiating purchases for affiliates that do not
    have direct access to the agency accounting software; (b) day to day
    oversight over finances and cash flow; (c) aligning affiliates’ administrative
    needs with Pillsbury’s administrative systems on items such as job descriptions
    for "assigned employees", budgeting timelines, payroll periods,
    etc.
  • Helping leaders
    strategize program development initiatives, create annual development
    plans, and develop funding proposals. CBI staff typically provides significant
    support in developing the first proposal for emerging organizations.
    Additionally, CBI staff assist leaders strategize how the affiliate
    can achieve its organizational goals.
  • Teaming with and/or
    initiating contact with other consultants who may be hired by the affiliate
  • Customizing and
    interpreting financial information, assisting with budget development,
    seeking budget amendments, revenue collections, etc.
  • General advocacy
    both on behalf of affiliates within Pillsbury and with the broader funding
    community.
  • Organizational
    assessments/structuring (clarifying roles and responsibilities of staff
    and board members; development of a board operations manual; assisting
    board operating committees establish realistic goals; contract development;
    program evaluation; financial reviews; systems needed in preparation
    for spinning off as an independent organization; etc).
