Neighborhood
& Family Services

Pillsbury
United Communities’ five neighborhood centers
are committed to providing solutions for individuals and families so that
they may create choice, change and connection in their lives and in their
communities. We organize these solutions into four core services:

Basic Needs

Empowerment begins when the most basic human needs are met. That is why
we provide culturally specific lunch and food shelf programs, health care
enrollment, childcare, domestic abuse advocacy, support groups and housing
services.

Volunteerism

Sometimes the best thing you can receive is the opportunity to give. We
promote volunteerism and community building, with activities that enable
participants to "give something back." Besides enhancing individual
motivation and promoting civic responsibility, this helps us expand support
networks and build community assets.

Self-Sufficiency

The most effective way to help people is to enable them to help themselves.
We offer English as a second language classes, employment services, family
loans, tax preparation and guidance, transportation, and life skills training.

Youth Development Services

Our investment in children pays long-term returns. Our initiatives in
this area include Early Risers, after school and summer programming, intervention
and outreach, and post-secondary education preparation.

Our six city-wide multi-purpose centers are both focused and flexible.
Each center strives to offer and maintain spaces that are welcoming, vibrant
and respectful to our communities in addition to offering quality opportunities
that motivate people to connect and grow in their lives and in their communities;
create a corps of dedicated people who carry out the agency’s mission;
and strategically partner with the other units of Pillsbury United Communities.
